Story of Hanji

Hanji, the name of traditional handmade paper of Korea, has been in use for over thousand years. Made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, it has natural fibers called ‘Dak’, making it strong and durable, it does not tear easily. It is also pleasant to the eye and soft to the touch with a smooth texture. Hanji, its sturdiness has allowed it to be used for various purposes such as art material, stationery and household goods.

The type of paper used for Hanji Book is a modernized version of the Hanji. Made by a mechanical method which enables a stable mass production and the quality improvement of Hanji products, the Hanji Book is suitable for various creative uses and has excellent durability and tactility.

Screen-printing by hand is our primary technique for printing Hanji Book covers, which is excellent for bold and detailed graphic expression and color enrichment.

수작업 스크린 프린팅은 한지북 커버를 인쇄하는 주된 기술로, 굵직하고 섬세한 그래픽과 색상 표현에 탁월합니다.

Cabinet

Inspired by the shape of a cabinet, the Hanji Book Cabinet is designed resembling the cabinet which organizes records. The Cabinet is a tool that keeps someone’s records for a long time. In the Cabinet, anything can be recorded and stored: goals, ideas, sketches, etc. Made of the premium quality Hanji, the Cabinet allows a user to record even more thoughtfully.

커버 디자인은 캐비닛(Cabinet)에서 형태 영감을 받아 기록을 정리해 두는 캐비닛을 닮게 디자인하였습니다. 한지북은 누군가의 기록을 오래도록 보관해 주는 장치인 것입니다. ​캐비닛에는 목표, 아이디어, 스케치 등 무엇이든 기록하고 보관할 수 있습니다. 고급 한지로 만든 캐비닛이어서 더 소중히 기록을 담게합니다.

Frame

As if looking at the world through frames in a multitude of forms, Hanji book frame provides a moment where intriguing thoughts and brilliant ideas can come to mind. Inspired by an ancient Korean book cover, the frame notebook cover design made of circular and rectangular shapes features its structured and playful feel. As each element is screen-printed 3 to 4 times by hand, the frame itself is an artwork created with time and effort.

다양한 형태의 프레임으로 세상 속을 들여다 보듯, 재미있는 생각과 흥미로운 아이디어를 떠올려 볼 수 있는 한지북 프레임입니다. 우리나라 고서의 표지에서 영감을 받은 원과 사각형의 조합으로 표현된 프레임 커버는 구조적이면서 경쾌한 느낌의 디자인을 선보입니다. 요소 하나하나를 3-4회에 거쳐 찍어 완성되어 시간과 정성으로 만들어진 아트워크입니다.

Symbol

Hanji book symbol, designed with a combination of mono-shape and mono-color, focuses on the texture of Hanji paper, conveying the originality of aesthetic design. By incorporating traditional material and modern graphic design, it maximizes the natural feel with minimum elements. Quiet yet vibrant, the symbol notebook is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry.

한지북 심볼은 한가지 도형과 한가지 색의 조합만으로 디자인되었으며 한지의 질감에 중점을 두어 미적 디자인의 독창성을 전달합니다. 전통적인 소재와 현대적인 그래픽 디자인이 어우러져 최소한의 요소로 최대한의 자연스러움을 표현합니다. 조용한 듯 하지만 강렬한 인상을 주는 심볼은 작고 가벼워 가지고 다니기가 용이합니다.

Passport

The passport-sized Hanji book can be used as traveler’s itinerary, memorandum, drawing book, etc. It’s very tiny, but a useful mini-note that you can record when you really need it.
